Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

We have been wanting to ride the Aerial Tramway which is a lift that takes you from the Valley Station, which is about 2000 feet above sea level, to near the summit of San Jacinto mountain. It is a vertical ride unlike any other in this country. You feel like you are scraping the rocks on your assent to the top. It is held by one continuous cable that was manufactured in Sweden. The car took a maximum of 80 people up the mountain. The rotating gondola is relatively new and a unique way to see all of the fantastic views offered.

When you arrive at the top, you are 8500 feet above sea level. The ride up in the rotating gondola does not take very long. You can see Palm Springs, La Quinta, Indio and that entire area. There was still a good amount of snow on the top and the temperature was cool but we did not really need jackets. We thought there would be more to do at the pinnacle, but there was only a store, a restaurant in the lodge and various hiking trails. It was not nearly as developed as the area we took the tram to in Gatlinburg.

We stayed at the top for about an hour
and knew we had to get down to the base by 4:30 since we had a dinner engagement with folks we met up at the Pomona FMCA Rally. The tram was a fun thing to do and we saw some beautiful vistas from the mountain top.

That evening we went to Jerry and Liz B's house in Rancho Mirage, CA. It was on the side of a hill overlooking the city. What a beautiful house and view. we had a nice evening with them and their friends, Jane and Jerry. We wished we had brought a camera for a few pictures, but we did not. Jerry gave us a detailed map and gave us some suggestions for journeys to Arizona and Utah. Jerry and Liz have a Monaco Dynasty motorhome that was having some problems, so I think they will be trading for a new Monaco soon. It was nice of them to invite us to their home after our brief meeting at the rally.

On our drive home we took El Paso Drive which is considered the "Rodeo Drive" of Palm Springs. We saw all the high end stores and galleries that lined the street...
